SUMMER time is here … and so is the countdown to one of Scotland’s newest, biggest and best celebrations of the craft of brewing.
And as the clocks spring forward this Sunday (March 29), tickets for the Midsummer Beer Happening in Stonehaven – a three-day extravaganza of beer, street vendor food and fantastic music in June - will go on sale online, so ale fans can grab a place at this special event.
Held under canvas in the town’s Baird Park, the Happening will offer a dizzying array of around 140 beers, ranging from craft to Belgian to real ale, all handpicked from the finest breweries across the country and the Continent.
The event, from Thursday, June 18, to Saturday, June 20, is brought to you by the same team behind the hugely popular Stonehaven Real Ale Festival – and organiser Robert Lindsay says beer fans are in for treat.
“We will create our own, very special venue in a marquee in the Baird Park that will be the epicentre of a celebration of beer, food and music – but especially beer,” said Robert, owner of Stonehaven’s Six Degrees North Brewery.
“On offer will be the largest array and range of beers you will find in one place in Scotland this year, all of it of the finest quality that will be a treat for beer fans – and novices – alike.
“And as we have a larger venue and a wider range, we can guarantee beer will keep flowing until the very last minute of the very last day of the festival.
“Being under canvas also means we won’t have the long queues which the beer festival generated outside the town hall. And we can also, for the first time, let people buy tickets in advance – and what better time to launch tickets for a midsummer beer event than at the start of British Summer Time?”
The Happening, a not-for-profit event that raises money for local good causes, will also boast an array of street vendor food, including award-winning fish and chips and Indian cuisine rated amongst the best in the whole country.
A line-up of great musicians will keep you entertained as you drink, eat and enjoy the Happening, which is part of Scotland’s special Year of Food And Drink.
And for fitness fans, the Happening is also staging a cycling sportive event on the Saturday, being held over the beautiful highways and byways of the Mearns.
For those who take their food and drink seriously, a corporate dinner to learn the art of matching beer and cuisine will delight your tastebuds.
Robert said: “We are very excited about what we are sure will be a very special event. So, buy your tickets now, look out your shorts and shades and we will see you in June.
“Remember … it’s all happening in Stonehaven at Midsummer.”
Day tickets for the Happening will cost £10, including a commemorative glass. Weekend tickets, giving you access for all three days, will cost £15. To buy your ticket or find out more about the Happening, visit midsummerbeerhappening.co.uk
